Ever find yourself driving to a destination you've been to before, only to find that it's not there when you arrive? Truth is, you didn't know where you were going in the first place. Happens to me, literally and figuratively, more often than I would like to admit.
In the aftermath of the Presidential Election the political pundits are scratching their heads trying to figure out how we got here. Sometimes, it's that way in business too.
CEOs are supposed to know the way. Right? That's what all those business plans, forecasts and meetings are all about. Then reality sets in and we discover that clarity can get a little foggy.
These days I'm feeling a little foggy. It's not a brain fog kind of thing. I'm clear-headed and thinking straight (at least I think so). Rather, it's that many of the things that used to work, either no longer work or don't work as well as they once did. Things have changed. Sort of like playing a board game when all of sudden there's a brief power outage and when the lights come back on there's a different board on the table. Same dice. Same players. But the game has changed.
So we pay more attention to those books and articles about mindset and resilience in an attempt to find our way around the board. For me, I'm doing my best stay after those things that stand the test of time and when consistently applied, pay off.
Yes, I make my bed every morning.
Do my best to go to bed and get up at similar times every day.
Spend less than I make.
Listen more than I talk. (Ok, so this is a tough one)
And more than anything else, staying in the game, no matter what.
How about you?
How's your mental clarity these days?
